You get Emails Every Day from an SEO Agency – Why is this Different?

With staff here, who have worked client side for a number of years, including at some of the most well-known brands in the country, we can certainly sympathise on that front. Not a day went by, where we wouldn’t receive an email promising to ‘get us on to page 1 of Google’, or ‘rank number 1 for 10 of our chosen keywords’. Of course, promises like that are nonsense.

Email marketing is a great way of touching base with your target audience. That said, it needs to be done in the right way. So, when we set-up Panoptic Media, and wanted to put our proposition and offering to the relevant market, we took a great deal of consideration in deciding how we might avoid being ‘one of the masses’ that give our glowing industry such a bad name.

In fact, it isn’t just the hollow offerings, and the promises that are worth no more than the paper on which they’re written, that are the issue. Furthermore, it’s the fact that every agency up and down the country seems to be offering the same ‘hook’. If we wanted to get an SEO audit of our site, I genuinely believe that we could get 30-40 of these within a 24-hour period – simply because, every SEO agency is offering one for nothing. The principle – scare a business by showing them what’s not working, and what’s wrong with their site, and convince them to become a client so that all of those woes can be put right.

So, what is the output of our pondering on this? It’s quite simple. We’re still going to email people that we believe have a legitimate interest in our services, and we’re still going to offer to audit their site. That’s in contradiction to all of the above, you may surmise? Well, actually – it’s not. And that’s because we’re going to do it differently.

When we get in touch, we’re not going to make endless promises that can’t be kept. We’re not going to claim to be the best agency in the country. And we’re not going to claim to be able to comfortably get you to rank on page 1, for a select number of terms.

In fact, quite the opposite.

We’re going to suggest we get to know more about your business, understand more about your industry, and understand more about your wants, needs and requirements. Based on that, we’re going to make suggestions as to how we might be able to help, how a suggested strategy might work, and how we can tie in any online activity with your offline marketing efforts too. In a nutshell, we’re going to treat you as an individual, and we’re going to make suggestions that we believe will benefit your business commercially. We’re going to understand you as a client, and above all, as an individual.

And on the audit front, we’re not going to plum your URL into an online tool, and watch it churn out an SEO score. Well, we can do that – but it would be pointless, because you may as well do that yourself. Instead, what we’ll do is have a human being manually look over your site. And a good part of that process will look at your positioning, your competition, and the industry within which your operating. To use a banking analogy, we’re like a personal banker, as opposed to a call-centre operative on the other end of the phone.

We’re not like other SEO agencies, and our emails and audits aren’t like theirs either.

We’ve been there, and worked client side. The last thing we want to do, is annoy Marketing Manager’s the way we were annoyed, back in the day.
